Black Friday Deals

I saw her laying there.

Not a trace of emotion
in her tired, drawn face
just vacuous nothingness
oblivious to pity or
empathy, dried up and
flushed with pain,
swaddled in apathy,
crushed by my disdain.

she turned her face away,
mumbling, a fingerless gloved
hand held out for loose change.

I left her in her doorway
with her dog for company
and blew my stash of
middle class cash
on Black Friday deals
I didn’t want
and didn’t need.

I didn’t look back.
